Timeline

Major story events in chronological order, plus the author's planned future arcs.

Major events in chronological story order (not chapter order). Spoiler-complete through Chapter 43 (published Royal Road chapters are canon). Times within the story are relative — the chapters give few absolute dates.

Before the story (backstory)

  • Millions of years ago: The Creator's two sons — Bob and his brother — maintain the balance of the universe. The brother concludes "the only path forward is to erase everything and begin again," attempts it once, and is stopped.

  • Landen's childhood (Earth): Before pro gaming, Landen studies computer engineering — reworking circuit boards and selling custom video games online. (Relevant to Ch 43.)
  • Landen's pro career (Earth): Landen becomes the #1-ranked Legends of Heroes player, captain of self-built Team Thorne, and the secretive streamer "Lone Knight." Melinda StarFrost becomes his broadcast crush.

  • Whether Bob and "the Lord" are the same being.
  • The revival mechanism of the Rare Bristleback.
  • The seal's fading around Ember and its absence around Liora.
  • Landen's captaincy dispute with Ember; the second Drex session now underway.

Planned Future Arcs (Author's Drive Notes — Unpublished, NOT canon)

From the author's story bible ("Landen - Outline," "Landen - Conflict Outlines," "Ember Rejects," "Landen Contract Application"). Subject to change; the author notes "After this is To Be Determined."

  • Ch 44 setup (draft): River vs. Landen 1v1 in one week; River and Micah Rush plan an arena distraction so the Rejects can ambush Ember mid-duel.
  • Homeroom tournament arc: Landen forfeits mid-fight to save Ember from the Rejects' "Silent Circle"; the class turns on him (a 5-on-1 Echo-Fly Shoot beating; his homeroom comes back to defend him; he learns to rely on others). Final match: Malrec beats Landen on the biggest stage.
  • Expulsion arc: final selection picks Malrec over Landen — Landen is expelled and lives on the streets. The System is revealed to be a real person, not an AI. A homeless ex-professor (a former great swordsman removed for gambling addiction) becomes his sword master; they train in the beast-filled forest. They save a class field trip from an unbeatable beast; Landen is recruited to the weakest homeroom team for the Freshman Tournament (starting in the loser bracket). A seer teammate (Edwin Ashveil) secretly throws matches because her visions show Landen winning triggers the invasion.
  • Invasion arc: the championship win opens a sky portal; hundreds of warriors invade. Homeroom teacher Kael is the traitor who engineered it (hunting abilities that trigger the invasion; his combat-teacher counterpart secretly fights him). Kael nearly kills Malrec, then recruits him with dark energy — Malrec joins the mask man. The school is devastated; kids are dismissed to other schools; Landen ends up at a school of rejects.
  • Further arcs (listed, no detail yet): a defense-of-towers war (Landen as commander; Chief Marshal Vanderbilt aids the defense); the search for the celestial/holy swords (7 scattered god-sword fragments; a Planet Nova arc questing for the 5 swords of heaven, StarCraft-style); Landen grows up with Demons; Landen fights Jin (who commands angels, including Edwin Ashveil); Landen "becomes Majestic Knights."
  • Endpoint (planned): Landen kills Malrec — Black's chosen knight — and changes his registered name back from Knight to Thorne in remembrance of his brother.
