Spoiler-complete through Chapter 43 (published Royal Road chapters are canon). Grounded in the published chapters; speculative items and contradictions are flagged.
Dantian Energy System
The foundation of power in this world. Everyone is born with a dantian — an inner energy center — and can train it to increase capacity, purity, and essence reserves. Dantians are graded by Essence Reader devices (a glass-topped box; a small metal plate pressed to the wrist).
Energy types
- Power abilities (attack): Light and Dark powers.
- Capacity: Soul Energy — the capacity to equip abilities.
- Landen additionally has 1 Celestial Energy — an unknown type the System notes as unobtainable by anyone in this world ("The fact that you have one Celestial Energy is unheard of"). Its function is currently a mystery. (Speculation: granted by Bob.)
Essence Grades
The entrance grading table (Ch 3) gives numeric power ranges:
| Grade | Power range |
|---|---|
| Civilian | 0–10 |
| Elementary 1 | 11–50 |
| Elementary 2 | 50–100 |
| Elementary 3 | 100–200 |
| Intermediate 1 | 200–400 |
| Intermediate 2 | 400–1,000 |
| Intermediate 3 | 1,000–2,000 |
| (Higher) | Advance, Master, Grand Master, Renowned |
Contradiction: Ch 42 reframes Elementary as five "stars" (Brannik's crest machine), with Intermediate represented by a sword — a true "breakthrough" barrier, not a bigger number. Ember explains: five-star freshmen have maxed Elementary; Intermediate requires breaking through entirely. This does not map cleanly to the earlier 11–2,000 numeric table. Also note: a "civilian" with zero energy is explicitly not the same as "Level 1 Civilian."
Soul colors
Twelve normal soul colors (per Varro, Ch 5): primaries red, yellow, blue; secondaries orange, green, violet; tertiary red-orange, yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, red-violet. A person's aura corresponds to their soul color (e.g., Landen's dantian shows a faint red aura — the color of raw spiritual power).
Landen's soul test returned completely clear — a blank slate. Bob interprets it as either "you will be able to wield everything… all weapons… and all elements… at the highest possible level" or "you can wield nothing." (Ch 42's reassessment records Landen's soul as Undefined — likely the machine's rendering of "clear." The author's earlier outline says soul color "White," but the published chapters say clear; the chapters govern.)
Landen's custom dantian (Ch 43 — major lore reveal)
Bob did not give Landen a normal dantian. The System's analysis: a human-built biological integrated circuit — micro-spiritual transistors laid out "like a circuit board" (Landen recognizes the schematic). He crashes it into a manual Debug Mode, unlocks the hidden [ SYSTEM API ] tab, writes an Essence Extraction driver ("Hello World" ability), and manually routes his own essence — the first functional, human-reprogrammable dantian. Bob's comment: "I figured I'd make you a little custom one, because your body wasn't suitable for… dantians."
Known power figures (rankings, Ch 42)
- #1 Gordon Vanderbilt — 2361
- #2 Kael Halvek — 2042
- #3 Celestine Varro — 1820
- #4 Maris Feld — 1293
- Unknown rank: the nurse — 1005
The MOBA System
Installed in Landen by Bob. It frames reality in MOBA-game terms: levels, EXP bars, ability shop (D–S rank), quests with visible progress bars, real-time stat tracking, tactical overlays, threat detection, health/essence bars over people, and an ability-shop style library of ranked abilities.
Attributes
- Strength: base physical damage, critical damage, HP, stamina.
- Agility: base speed, movement speed, attack speed, reaction time.
- Intelligence: base ability damage, essence capacity, essence regeneration.
- Vitality: HP and stamina regeneration, healing efficiency.
- 10 attribute points per level, freely allocated. First level-up requires 100 XP; the next takes 200 XP.
- The System warns that real-world physics still apply (falling, exhaustion, healing); stats amplify rather than replace the body.
Abilities
- Ranks D–S; initial costs: D=1, C=2, B=3, A=4, S=5 attribute points.
- Critical Damage (D-class passive): 25% chance for +200% physical damage. At Lv 5: 65% chance for +400%.
- Cultivate (B-class active/passive): spends attribute points to store Cultivate charges (max 5); each charge grants a temporary attribute boost when activated.
- Acquiring new abilities requires logging them — "MOBA libraries" must be downloaded over time from the world's data. Landen learns by observation: the System logs enemy abilities mid-fight (e.g., the white-haired boy's abilities from the entrance test footage).
System features (tabs)
- Abilities — learned abilities with detailed rules, cooldowns, damage formulas.
- Inventory / Equipment — item storage; item orbs (healing potions, beast blood, equipment), including a MOBA Bracer worn on the wrist that summons items (2-second delay, 5-second cooldown).
- Ranking — the academy's Underground Leaderboard plus the world's top-100.
- Heroes — locked (later reveals Landen's own profile: stats and abilities).
- Training — time-dilated training modules (Landen gets ~33 hours of training in 5 real minutes, limited by cognitive bandwidth).
- [ SYSTEM API ] (hidden until Ch 43) — dantian driver-level access.
- Courier: Landen names his courier Sprout, a small tree-shaped dog-sized creature with wide amber eyes, used to fetch item orbs.
Known damage/physics quirks
- Damage calculations occasionally don't reconcile with displayed numbers (the author's math is inconsistent; flagged, not corrected).
- In Ch 23, Landen's attacks deal zero damage to Ryker because his power is below Ryker's defense threshold — he fixes it by dumping all points into Strength.
Aegis Vanguard Military Academy
The premier military academy — "A place where the true powerhouses are forged," producer of legends (General Saud, Captain Warrior Zeus). Located in the district around Westcrest; near the exclusive elevated Highcrest district (Micah Rush's home) and the forest of Ashfen.
Freshman structure
- Eight freshman homerooms, nominally 50 students each. The physical tests expel roughly two-thirds: 15 survive per room, grouped into teams of five.
- Team slots mirror MOBA lanes: Fighter (clash lane), Mage (mid), Assassin, Tank, Marksman, Support.
- Team Halvek B (the protagonist's team): Landen (Support — officially captain, though Ember declares herself captain without resolution), Ember (Mage), Maledic (Fighter), Elle (Assassin), Jareth (Fighter), Veya (Marksman) — six members, over the five-man norm (unstated reason; effectively Halvek's expanded roster).
- Instructors have full combat authority; "Professor Drex" is the designated punisher with a license to brutalize students.
- The Freshman Tournament (globally broadcast) decides the starting five and backups; strong performers advance.
Freshman tests
- Wisp Tag (Agility): a maze of floating colored wisps with abilities (heal, freeze, steal points, reveal); points for catching; Landen finished 5th despite slowest speed by decoding wisp behavior.
- Kinetic Wave (Strength/weapon potential): striking an obelisk; Landen tripped into it and scored zero.
- Endurance / Precision / Energy Density: Landen was unconscious for all three.
- Tactical written exam: Landen slept through it but answered the real final question ("What is your name?") — placing first.
Academy technology
- Essence Reader (intake grading box).
- Battle Rooms: array-etched chambers with fitted sensor suits; generate environments (forest clearing, scorching desert), state-reset on exit (injuries undone), quest overlays. Room 40 (Drex) and Halvek's desert room are shown.
- Essence Skin — a four-step fundamental combat technique; step one is Extraction (pulling essence through skin pores into the body); Halvek teaches it personally to Landen.
- Essence crests (uniform patches): stars = Elementary levels; a sword = Intermediate breakthrough.
- Medical: recovery rooms, essence-infusion, and potions — direct healing abilities do not exist.
The Underground ("The Bubble")
An unofficial student-run ranking arena in the academy's basement — not on any map, entered through a janitor's closet. Maintained by student records; run by "management" with a holographic leaderboard. Officially "it doesn't exist" (the nurse: "The Underground is not an academy-sanctioned event"). Rankings: #1 "Mifaso Latido" (Landen's alias), #2 River Ashlock, #3 Maledic Thorne, #4 Magnus Cindercrest, #5 Lysara Venn, #6 Torvin Hale, #7 Thalia Aethra, #8 Ember Strife, #9 Elara Vesperine, #10 Ryker Tann. (Earlier Ch 18 readouts differ slightly in tail ordering — the Ch 42 list is the latest.)
World geography & factions
- Aegis Vanguard Military Academy — the central institution.
- Ashfen Forest — beast-hunting grounds adjacent to the academy; zones: Common → Uncommon → Rare territories.
- Westcrest — the district around the academy (named once).
- Highcrest — exclusive elevated district; home of noble families (Micah Rush).
- Earth — Landen's origin; Legends of Heroes esports scene; functionally unreachable (Bob offered return, Landen refused).
- The Creator's domain — Bob's collapsed white-void space; the "millions of years" cosmic layer where Bob and his brother maintain the universe.
- The Ember Rejects — began as a joke club of boys rejected by Ember; turned genuinely misogynist, then began receiving real, secret funding (revealed: Micah Rush). Now a structured, budgeted organization with a plan and "a countdown." (Funding origin before Rush: unstated.)
Beasts
Ten ranks: Common → Uncommon → Rare → Super Rare → Ultra Rare → Grand → Epic → Legendary → Arcane → Mythical.
- Iron-Hide Bristleback — boar-like beast with an armored hide; team-killing one grants shared XP; cores are valuable (two Rare cores funded Landen's information offer).
- Rare Bristleback — upright-walking variant; knocked Landen's team around, "died," then revived (mechanism unstated) and crippled Ember and Mira before Landen beheaded it. Notably, its apparent death granted no XP — flagged as unexplained.
- Beast blood, bones, and cores are harvestable resources (Landen carries vials; orbs drop from kills).
- Taming exists: Gragic's Beast Tamer ability; a bone-white horn aids summoning.
Key lore & unresolved mysteries
- Bob's mission: Landen must kill the champion chosen by Bob's brother — a universe-erasing god's agent. "If you fail, you will be the one who dies." The brother's champion is unidentified.
- Bob = "the Lord"? The System calls its maker "the Lord"; Bob is "the son of the Creator." Strongly implied to be the same being — never explicitly confirmed.
- The attraction seal: Bob rerouted Landen's attraction response into nausea/vertigo. It stops reacting to Ember in Ch 28 with no explanation, and never reacted to Liora at all.
- "Mifaso Latido": began as a police mishearing; became the academy's #1 Underground identity. Characters sometimes speak as if "the real Mifaso" were a separate person.
- The Ember Rejects' original funding (before Micah Rush) and their "countdown" plan are unstated.
- The trapper's "cult" remark implies a cult faction inside the Rejects — never named or explained.
- The System's "You're starting to sound like him" — the identity of "him" is unstated.
- Team Varro's tracking method for finding Team Halvek in Ashfen is unstated.
- Strength formulas and displayed damage numbers don't consistently reconcile (author math).
- Ember's Rare kill granted no XP because the beast revived — the revival mechanism is unstated.
- Malrec/Maledic Thorne's surname matches Landen's; the System says they come from different worlds — flagged as unexplained.
Appendix: Author's Drive Notes — Extended Lore
From the author's story bible ("Technical data," "Landen - Details - v2," "Landen - Weapons Metals," "Landen - MOBA Strategies," "Landen - Level Stages," "Landen - Orb Items," "Landen - Teams"). Published chapters 1–43 are canon; conflicts flagged. [Planned] = not in published chapters. Note: parts of these docs (metals, knight ranks, treasure glossary, cosmology) read as pasted AI-generated reference text — treat as notes, not confirmed canon.
Full essence hierarchy [Notes]
Beyond the academy's Civilian–Renowned table, the author's hierarchy continues:
| Grade | Sub-levels (numeric) | Soul Evolution |
|---|---|---|
| Civilian | 0–10 | — |
| Elementary | 3rd 11–50, 2nd 50–100, 1st 100–200 | 1st |
| Intermediate | 3rd 200–400, 2nd 400–1,000, 1st 1,000–2,000 | 2nd |
| Advance | 3rd 2,000–4,000, 2nd 4,000–8,000, 1st 8,000–16,000 | 3rd |
| Master | 3rd 16,000–30,000, 2nd 30,000–50,000, 1st 50,000–100,000 | 4th |
| Grand Master | 3rd 100,000–200,000, 2nd 200,000–400,000, 1st 400,000–800,000 | 5th |
| Renowned | 800,000–1,600,000 | 6th |
| Majestic | (blank in notes) | — |
| Legendary | 5,000,000–10,000,000 | 7th |
| Mythic | 10,000,000–50,000,000 | — |
| Divine | 50,000,000–100,000,000 | — |
| Immortal | 100,000,000–200,000,000 | — |
| Demigod | 200,000,000–400,000,000 | — |
| Lesser Deity | 400,000,000–1,000,000,000 | — |
| Celestial Being | 1,000,000,000–Infinity | — |
| 16 God | Infinity | — |
- Soul Evolution: 7 evolutions; attribute points granted per evolution: 10 / 25 / 50 / 100 / 250 / 500 / 1000; ability-bank capacity grows 1–3 → 8–10.
- Energy accounting: Total Energy (TE) = Light Energy Points + Dark Energy Points; TE/Soul Points = Total ESP. Skill use consumes SP plus LEP/DEP. One's LEP/DEP pool is largely fixed at birth — hence abilities run in bloodlines.
- Beast classes (numeric): Common 0–100; Uncommon 100–200; Rare 200–1,000; Super Rare 1,000–5,000; Ultra Rare 5,000–20,000; Grand 20,000–100,000; Epic 100,000–1,000,000; Legendary 1,000,000–5,000,000; Arcane 5,000,000–10,000,000; Mystical 10,000,000+.
- Element color mapping: Wind = Violet, Water = Blue, Earth = Green, Lightning = Yellow, Fire = Red, Physical = Orange. Light and Dark alone are too powerful to wield; mixed with soul energy they generate the elements.
- [Planned] author's endgame power list: Landen = Majestic; Jin = 3rd Class Master (later drops to Civilian); Athena = 3rd class Grand Master; masked man = Mythic; Ch 45 "Labyrinth of Zynmar" — Eris: Advance (2,470 EP); Linus: Intermediate (1,640 EP).
Crystals [Notes]
Energy, Summoning, and Soul crystals. Soul crystals are made by a legendary crafter from energy crystals + beast soul crystals; a beast contracts with an owner via blood on the crystal, which the summoner then swallows — when the summoner dies, so does the beast. Types: fairies, dark beast, fire beast, water beast, light beast (combinations produce different effects, e.g., light + fairy beast heals an area).
Weapons & metals [Notes]
- Singularium ("Anchor Metal" / Void-Steel): hyper-dense (12,901 g/cm³, 145,000 MPa yield); a coin-sized piece weighs 45 lbs and strikes like artillery; practical weapons are sliver/needle blades.
- Mithralite-D ("Collapse Metal" / Star-Core Iron): 42.5 g/cm³, 6,200 MPa; a longsword would weigh 16.5 lbs — used as core-lining/edges.
- The god sword was welded by Bob himself; its true power was broken into 7 swords scattered across the world; it requires minimum attributes just to hold (Landen plans to use Cultivate-boosted Intelligence to wield it for a single attack). A "picky" black-soul sword that no one can wield doubles all of Landen's attributes in his hands thanks to his clear soul. [Planned]
Orb items [Notes]
Mage orbs only (no melee/tank/support lists): tiers Beginner → Intermediate → Advanced, plus Mana-Focused, Aggressive, and a MOBA-Style Progression set (Arcane Seed → Runic Nexus → Celestial Prism → Archmage's Heart → Arcane Singularity). Orbs are bought with minion-kill gold and trade up with the right combination + extra gold; the courier delivers items and healing potions mid-match.
MOBA strategies [Notes — author's tactical doctrine]
Hidden-carry ganks; creep blocking and denying; split push; counter-itemization; wards vs. invisibility; high-ground advantage (attacking uphill from low ground misses); "one team win will change the game"; Landen keeps the watch-map up at all times and teaches teammates skill combos. Landen's 1v1 planning notes: Ryker is a mage with two skills and limited mana (no fire skills); Landen out-farms him, hides behind minions, and studies the orb shop mid-match.
Team rosters [Notes]
- Homeroom Team A: Maledic Thorne (Fighter, captain, 1st Strength); others unnamed (1st Precision marksman, 3rd Agility assassin, 2nd Endurance tank, 2nd Energy Density mage).
- Homeroom Team B: Landen (Support), Ember (Mage, 1st Energy Density), Veya Rune (Marksman, 2nd Precision), Elle / Elara Vesperine (Assassin, 2nd Agility), Jareth Hale (Fighter, 3rd Strength). (Matches published.)
- Homeroom Team C: Silas Vance (Assassin, captain, 1st Agility); others unnamed.
- Professor teams: Halvek (BLUE); Orvyn — Denna Orvyn, Jesper, Ryker Tann; Varro (GREEN) — Orio (captain), Mira Ellowyn, Cyndr Veyl, Gragic Formen, Zirk Holloway; Ashford — Renwick Ashford; Sullen — Miriam Sullen, Bryce (Thalia Aethra per the name bank); Carath — Idris Carath; Lorne — Sera Lorne (spatial manipulation); Drex (RED) — Gareth Drex, Riven/River Ashlock, Torvin Hale, Cedric Lowen, Nyssa Vael, Ilyra Sorum, Hero Alexander. (Partially matches published; "Team Varro A/B" splits and some names are notes-only.)
Academy & pro scene [Notes]
Houses red/blue/orange (white center); dorms assigned by soul color; quarterly structure with monthly homeroom tournaments; the official pro league is the Global Battle Arena League (GBAL) with city/state/country/global rankings, rookie cards, and MOBA collector/trading cards. [Planned]
Cosmology & wider world [Notes — planned]
Three worlds ~8,000 miles in diameter, 80,000 miles apart, orbiting a Celestial Star; since the battle of the gods the world broke into landmasses, some floating like cloud cities, with abnormal gravity. Country: Albaspire ("white" + "spire"). The world's biggest sport is the Dota games — the best warriors, even kings, compete; whole lives revolve around it. [Planned] An Athena invasion arc: other planets' transportation/communication destroyed, total isolation; an oracle foretold Athena must go alone; the goal is finding a telekinetic who can contact her twin sister on another planet.
